Today’s announcement of the State and Commonwealth Government’s $33 million investment into WA’s premier, iconic tourism attraction, Rottnest Island, will produce substantial benefits for WA’s tourism industry, including hotels and hospitality venues that will benefit from increased visitation.
Australian Hotels Association (WA) CEO Bradley Woods welcomed the acknowledgement by Federal Tourism Minister Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham and Premier Mark McGowan that Rottnest Island has become a major drawcard for domestic and international tourists.
“Rottnest Island is increasingly known across the world as a unique, picturesque and laid-back destination with famous camera-friendly quokkas and spectacular beaches,” Mr Woods said.
“The island acts as an exceptional advertisement for WA and its profile has received a massive boost in recent years with the help of global stars such as Roger Federer, Chris Hemsworth and Margot Robbie, who have encouraged their millions of followers to visit the state.”
“Those coming to WA to visit Rottnest Island also spend their time in Perth and many other parts of the state, spending in hotels and hospitality venues throughout WA.”
“History has proven that when strategic infrastructure investments are made, the benefits are shared by all.”
