This year the AHA(WA) has proudly partnered with Beta Spuds – a family-owned business and one of the largest suppliers of potatoes in WA.
Beta Spuds encourages chefs to showcase fresh-cut potato chips, which is a cost-effective, quality option that venues can consider to help combat frozen chip shortages that have emerged recently.
COMPETITION RULES
- Steak is defined as a cut of meat being beef or lamb.
- The composition of the Steak Sandwich, recipe and its ingredients must remain the same throughout the competition (from nomination and consumer voting through to the final cook-off)
- The Steak Sandwich must be available on the venue’s menu throughout the competition
HOW DOES THE COMPETITION WORK?
After nominating, each venue is provided with marketing tools including posters, flyers and more. The competition is promoted both in venue as well as through a variety of traditional media outlets, AHA publications and social media channels.
Steak Sandwich finalists are determined using a combination of methods including online votes from customers, judging criteria and mystery judge visits.
Once determined, each of the four finalists are invited to compete in the steak sandwich cook-off, held at the AHA Hospitality Expo on the 27 & 28 June at Crown Perth.
The cook-off judging criteria for finalists is as follows:
- Tenderness of the meat
- Composition & presentation
- Use of fresh and local produce (ie fresh cut chips)
- Originality & creativity
- Chips
- Sauces
- Flavour
- Value for money
The two cook-off winners (Perth and Country WA) receive automatic entry as the semi-finalists in the AHA Hospitality Awards for Excellence “WA’s Best Steak Sandwich” category.
Winners and finalists receive a powerful marketing tool and more importantly, bragging rights for 2023.
