1 April 2026 | Customers can relax over the Easter holidays at WA hospitality venues, as Good Friday 2026 is the first time patrons can enjoy a drink without the need to purchase a meal.
AHA(WA) CEO Bradley Woods said: “This is the first Good Friday where pubs or bars can offer a drink without the old restrictions.”
Mr Woods said the Cook Labor Government reforms will deliver tangible benefits for venues and customers, with more businesses opening over the Easter period allowing customers and families to celebrate in WA’s hospitality venues.
“These reforms will make an immediate difference. Venues can now offer their customers a normal trading experience on Good Friday,” Mr Woods said.
“This is a great outcome for patrons who want to catch up with family and friends over the Easter long weekend with clearer, consistent trading rules.”
Under the reforms, Good Friday trading conditions for pubs and hotels are now aligned with standard Sunday trading hours, and meal-only liquor service requirements have been removed.
“With more venues opening on Good Friday, more people can enjoy the long weekend, whether that is a casual drink, a meal, or time spent at their local,” said Mr Woods.
He said the changes strike the right balance between modernising the industry and maintaining Western Australia’s strong approach to responsible service and harm minimisation.
“These reforms remove unnecessary restrictions and allow venues to meet modern expectations while continuing to prioritise safety and responsible service,” he said.
“The result is a stronger, more vibrant hospitality offering across the Easter weekend, which is a win for everyone.”
