AHA(WA) WELCOMES REGIONAL EXPANSION OF ‘ASK FOR ANGELA’

21 May 2026 | The Australian Hotels Association (WA) has welcomed the WA Government’s expansion of the internationally recognised ‘Ask for Angela’ initiative into regional Western Australia, following the successful rollout across Perth’s Protected Entertainment Precincts earlier this year.

The initiative gives patrons a discreet way to seek help if they feel unsafe, while providing venue staff with clear guidance on how to respond.

AHA(WA) Government Relations and Communications Manager Angela Beechey said the regional rollout was an important step in strengthening consistency and confidence across hospitality venues throughout Western Australia.

“The expansion of ‘Ask for Angela’ into regional Western Australia is a positive step that builds on the strong response we’ve already seen across Perth’s entertainment precincts,” Ms Beechey said.

“Regional venues are central to their local communities, and this initiative provides a practical and accessible framework to help staff support patrons who may feel unsafe or vulnerable.

“One of the strengths of ‘Ask for Angela’ is its simplicity. It gives patrons a discreet way to seek help, while providing venue staff with clear guidance on how to respond appropriately.

“Importantly, this is also about consistency across the industry. When patrons see the same message and understand what to expect, whether they are in Perth or a regional town, it helps build confidence and trust in participating venues.”

Ms Beechey said venues across regional Western Australia were encouraged to access the free resources and incorporate the initiative into existing staff training and venue procedures.

“The hospitality industry is committed to creating safe, welcoming and inclusive environments for patrons, and ‘Ask for Angela’ is a practical initiative that reinforces that commitment across both metropolitan and regional Western Australia,” she said.
